동서양의 대화: 퇴계와 다빈치가 만나다

 

16세기경 동양의 선비문화와 서양의 르네상스는 퇴계이황(1502~1571)과 레오나르도 다빈치(1452~1519) 두 천재에

의해 그 문화를 꽃피웠다. 사실상 반세기 차이로 서로 교류하거나 영향을 주고받은 것은 없었으나 퇴계와 다빈치는 각자가

속한 세상에서 인류 역사의 큰 족적을 남겼다.

 

한국 성리학 일인자이자 동방의 주자로 칭해지는 퇴계. 누구보다 인문정신에 투철한 삶을 살았던 그의 인생을 통해

인간다운 삶이란, 함께 행복한 사회란 어떤 모습인지 모색하고자 한다. 서양의 또 한 명의 천재적인 미술가이자 과학자,

기술가, 사상가였던 레오나르도 다빈치. 항상 시대를 앞서갔던 그의 창의적이고 천재적인 생각을 통해 현대 사회가 직면한

다양한 미래 문제에 대한 해법을 찾아본다.

 

두 천재의 만남과 대화를 통해 시대와 문화를 넘어 서로 공감하는 인문가치를 발견하고 인문정신의 새로운 미래가치를

발견할 수 있기를 기대한다.

 

 

 

The Dialogue between East and West: Meeting of Toegye and Da Vinci

 

Around the 16th century, the scholarly culture of the East and the Renaissance of the West blossomed

thanks to two geniuses: Toegye Yi Hwang (1502-1571) and Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519). A half a century

apart, though they could not interact or influence each other, Toegye and da Vinci left a great mark on

human history in their respective worlds.

 

Toegye is considered the leading scholar of Neo-Confucianism in Korea and the leader of the East. Through

his life—devoted to the humanistic spirit—we seek to explore what a life of humanness and a happy society

look like. Leonardo da Vinci was not only a remarkable artist, but a scientist, engineer, and a thinker. His

creative and genius ideas, which was always ahead of the times, would help explore solutions to various

future problems facing modern society.

 

The dialogue between these two geniuses would help discover humanistic values that resonate with each

of their eras and cultures while providing insight into future values of the humanistic spirit.
