“It’s okay even if you don’t have a dream.”
[Among the major OECD countries, Korea ranks first in university enrollment but fewer Koreans in their late 20s have jobs. Also, it is below average in employment and comes in dead last in life satisfaction for children and adolescents.]
This is where Korean youth stand in 2020, as they live in an era of diversity where individuality and identity deserve respect.
Where is the “destination” in the long journey called “life” for young people who do not cling to the conventional social norms or the views of others but sail in uncharted territory?
As in the BTS song “Paradise,” “It’s okay even if you don’t have a dream as long as you have a moment in time to appreciate happiness.” Dreams should not be forced or mandatory any longer. Growth is more precious in our life than competition is, and happy moments mean more than success.
It is time for the young people living today and for us who want to stay forever young to think about the long journey of “life.”
